Opioid Addiction Recovery Coaching
at Aligned Living

A major health event, like a catastrophic automobile wreck or a significant illness necessitating maximally invasive surgery, can happen to anyone. It’s usually necessary to take strong painkillers—including opioid prescription drugs—to manage everyday life.

Through no fault of your own, you can develop a tolerance, physical dependence, or even addiction to opioids—even if you take them exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You might have found opioids difficult to stop taking when the course of your medication ended, so it’s possible you asked for one more batch to make it through a stressful time at work. Over time, things sort of spiraled, and you now need a little bit of help to get things back on track.

That exact scenario has happened to so many people in the past few decades. Effective treatment is available, though, and more accessible than ever before. If you don’t feel like you have the time or resources to stay overnight in a residential facility, virtual opioid addiction coaching might be the right fit for you.

Who Is a Good Fit for Aligned Living’s Services?

Aligned Living’s virtual addiction coaching and recovery services are maximized for flexibility. All you need is an internet connection and a private space to connect with your coach. You can keep up with your opioid treatment at home or in your office. We believe that self-directed care, marked by bite-sized goals and a transparent road map, is the right model for our clients.

Aligned Living can best be described as aftercare coaching for substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions, but individuals at any stage of their recovery journey can benefit from our services. With that being said, those who need inpatient (24/7) care or detoxification services may need to interact with a more intensive level of care before engaging with Aligned Living. We recognize that our virtual coaching services occupy a unique place in the addiction recovery ecosystem; our concierge admission services will work exhaustively to ensure you would benefit from our program.

Continuing Care for Addiction Recovery

How Does Virtual Opioid Addiction Coaching Work?

After you speak with someone from our admissions team and agree to start with Aligned Living, you’ll meet with one of our advisors to craft an Alignment Plan. This plan lays out the path for individualized recovery, taking into account your unique goals and circumstances. You can complete your virtual coaching program at your own pace.

To help foster accountability and ensure progress, you’ll be able to check in with your advisor at your own convenience. These check-ins might last 15 minutes several times a week, 45 minutes once or twice a week, or some combination. We’ll also connect you with community resources and other care providers as needed. Clients are asked to commit to at least 30 days of coaching, but the total amount of time you’ll spend with us is entirely up to you.

Impacts of Addiction

How Opioids Hijack the Brain

All humans have opioid receptors in their brain, spine, and other places throughout the body. When we take opioids, these receptors get activated; the results of this activation are improved mood, decreased pain, and a profound high. This euphoric high, caused by a flood of dopamine, becomes more pronounced when users increase dosages.

The increased dopamine is synthetic and not natural. As a result, some users may start to feel down when their opioids wear off. Over time, many opioid users develop a tolerance to the medication. Having a tolerance to any medication means you must take greater amounts of it to achieve the same effects you experienced at the beginning of the medicine’s course. Tolerance leads to addiction for many people.

When you develop a tolerance, simply stopping the use of opioids is not always easy. Because your body has gotten well acquainted with the drug’s effects, you might encounter some unpleasant symptoms if you don’t keep up with the doses you’ve been taking. These symptoms can cause physical dependence, which, in some cases, leads to opioid addiction. If you spend a significant amount of time thinking about your next opioid dose and find it challenging to focus on work or other obligations, you might be living with opioid use disorder.

The Importance of Dual Diagnosis

Substance use disorder does not exist in a vacuum. Life stressors can play a significant part in the condition, as do underlying mental health conditions. As many as 40 percent of individuals with a substance use disorder also have one or more co-occurring mental health conditions. It’s critical to address all mental health conditions experienced by clients to ensure long-lasting recovery. This all-encompassing approach is referred to as dual diagnosis.

Some of the mental health conditions our staff helps clients manage include:

  • Anxiety disorder
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Trauma (including post-traumatic stress disorder)

If you need treatment from a licensed therapist, our staff would be happy to help coordinate care and connect you with the right people.

Family is Key to Opioid Addiction Coaching

Just as substance use disorder does not develop in a vacuum, the same is true of recovery. The stability of your home environment and level of familial support go a long way in determining how effective your recovery can be. The relationships you have with your family members—especially when you were growing up—can heavily influence your behavior as an adult.

For these and many other reasons, we believe it’s important to involve your family in your recovery journey, if at all possible. Our staff involves your family from the start, distributing Success Handbooks to your loved ones and addressing them during the introductory call so your support system and you are on the same page.

Your circle of support also has 45 minutes per week of access to your advisor. You don’t walk alone in your recovery, and you shouldn’t. Aligned Living prioritizes placing important people in strategic spaces within your recovery journey, so you have the support you need.
